Calmbirth® Refresher Course

A Time to Reconnect

Many parents contact me for a refresher because they are surprised by how quickly the pregnancy is progressing and realise they haven’t yet found the time or space to focus on preparing for this birth.

Life is often much busier the second, third or fourth time around. Between caring for older children, work and family commitments, it can be difficult to pause and connect with the pregnancy in the way you may have hoped.

A refresher provides dedicated time for both parents to reconnect with each other, reconnect with the pregnancy, and become clearer about their needs, intentions and expectations as they prepare to welcome their baby.

Together, we reflect on your previous birth experience or experiences. We explore what felt positive and supportive, what was challenging, and whether there are aspects you would like to approach differently this time.

For some families, the refresher is primarily about revisiting the practical Calmbirth® tools and techniques. For others, it is an opportunity to reflect, refocus and prepare for a different journey ahead.

Whatever your circumstances, these sessions provide space to pause, reconnect and prepare with confidence for the many possibilities that birth may bring.

Looking for Something More Tailored?

For families who have previously attended a full Calmbirth® course, I also offer individual birth preparation sessions tailored to your current pregnancy, birth and postpartum needs.

Whether you’d like to revisit Calmbirth® techniques, prepare for a different birth experience, explore your options, or reflect on a previous birth, these sessions provide space to focus on what feels most relevant to you. These sessions are usually 3-4 hours in duration.

If you’d like to discuss whether a tailored refresher is the right fit, I’d love to hear from you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are the sessions held?

Refresher sessions are held in the comfort of your own home throughout the Central Coast region. This allows you to learn in a familiar environment and tailor the experience to your individual needs and circumstances.

Can I attend a Calmbirth® Refresher or Tailored Refresher if I haven't completed a full Calmbirth® course?

No. The Calmbirth® Refresher and Tailored Refresher are designed specifically for parents who have previously completed a full Calmbirth® course.

The refresher session builds upon the knowledge, philosophy and practical skills taught during the full program and assumes an existing understanding of the Calmbirth® approach. If you have not previously attended a Calmbirth® course, I recommend enrolling in the full course to ensure you receive the comprehensive preparation and support that Calmbirth® offers.

Do you offer group Calmbirth Refresher courses?

No, I currently offer refresher courses as private sessions only.

If you are looking for a group Calmbirth® Refresher Course, you can search for educators offering this format via the Calmbirth® website:

Calmbirth Refresher Courses

Do you offer any birth preparation courses other than Calmbirth®?

The only childbirth education course I offer is Calmbirth®, as I believe it provides a comprehensive approach to preparing for pregnancy, labour, birth and early parenting.

However, if you would like support understanding different birth pathways, care options, interventions or decision-making during pregnancy and birth, I also offer Birth Mapping sessions.

Birth Mapping focuses on helping you explore your options, understand possible decision points and prepare for different pathways your pregnancy or birth may take. It does not cover birth physiology, relaxation techniques, breathing skills, partner support strategies or the practical tools taught within Calmbirth®.

Please contact me if you would like to discuss whether a Birth Mapping session may be suitable for you.

When is the best time to attend?

Most families attend between 24 and 34 weeks of pregnancy. However, some choose to begin earlier to allow more time to reflect on their options, while others attend later depending on their circumstances.

Can my other children be present during the Refresher course?

Because refresher sessions are held in your own home, it is certainly possible for your children to be present.

However, from experience, I find that having children present can be distracting for both parents and may reduce your ability to fully engage with the course content and practical activities. Sessions can also take longer to complete when interruptions occur.

Where possible, I recommend arranging alternative care so that you and your support person can gain the maximum benefit from your refresher experience.
