Private Calmbirth® Birth Preparation

Personalised Birth Education

Private Calmbirth® offers the same comprehensive education, practical skills and preparation as the group course, delivered in a format that can be tailored to your family’s needs and schedule.

Rather than attending a two-day group course, the program is typically delivered across four private sessions in your own home. This allows the learning to be spread over time, giving you the opportunity to absorb the information, practise the techniques between sessions and revisit questions as your pregnancy progresses.

Many families appreciate having time between sessions to reflect on what they have learned, discuss the content together and consider how it relates to their own circumstances and values.

This approach combines the comprehensive nature of the Calmbirth® program with the flexibility of private, in-home learning.

Private Calmbirth® includes:

Four personalised in-home sessions

Flexible scheduling around work and family commitments

Time to explore what matters most to you

Individualised support and discussion

The same comprehensive Calmbirth® curriculum as the group course

Ongoing support from Kate throughout your preparation

A More Personalised Approach to Birth Preparation

While the content remains the same as the group Calmbirth® course, private sessions allow for a more individualised learning experience.

Working one-on-one with experienced midwife and Calmbirth® educator Kate Corbett, you’ll have the opportunity to explore your questions, circumstances and priorities in greater depth. Rather than moving at the pace required for a group, discussions can be tailored to the aspects of pregnancy and birth that are most relevant to you.

This additional time and flexibility can be particularly valuable for families wishing to explore previous birth experiences, complex pregnancies, birth preferences, induction of labour, VBAC preparation, continuity of care options or other decisions that may influence their journey.

Private sessions create space for deeper discussion, reflection and preparation while still providing the complete Calmbirth® experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are the sessions held?

Private Calmbirth® sessions are held in the comfort of your own home throughout the Central Coast region. This allows you to learn in a familiar environment and tailor the experience to your individual needs and circumstances.

How often are the sessions scheduled?

There is no set schedule for private Calmbirth®. Sessions can be spaced weekly, fortnightly or further apart depending on your needs and availability. Some families also choose to complete multiple sessions within the same week. Together, we’ll create a schedule that feels right for you and your preparation.

Is private Calmbirth® different from the group course?

The curriculum and content are the same as the group course. The difference is the format. Private sessions provide greater flexibility, personalised discussion and the opportunity to explore your individual circumstances in more depth.

What does a private Calmbirth® session involve?

Each session includes a combination of discussion, childbirth education and practical activities. Together we’ll explore birth physiology, common maternity care practices and decision-making, while also practising relaxation, breathing, massage, acupressure, movement and birth partner support techniques.

When is the best time to attend?

Most families attend between 24 and 34 weeks of pregnancy. However, some choose to begin earlier to allow more time to reflect on their options, while others attend later depending on their circumstances.

Can I claim Calmbirth® through my private health fund?

Some private health funds provide rebates for childbirth education. Depending on your level of cover, you may be able to claim through providers such as NIB, Australian Unity, GMHBA or GU Health. A receipt can be provided for claiming purposes. We recommend checking directly with your health fund regarding your eligibility.
